My 30 Day Yoga Challenge for Mind Charity

I recently completed a 30 day yoga challenge in support of Mind Charity. Mind plays an important role in helping people before they reach crisis point, and raising awareness for their work felt deeply meaningful to me. I completed this challenge in memory of my sister. I am not sure if she ever used Mind and at the time I did not know much about the support they offered. If I had known, I would have encouraged her to reach out to them.

To help me stay committed throughout the challenge, I invited others to join me. It became yoga with a purpose. Everyone had their own reason for taking part, but together we supported Mind and supported ourselves through daily practice.

We met every morning at 6.30am from Monday to Friday and at 8.00am on weekends. Keeping this routine was demanding, yet every day when I logged onto Zoom there was always someone ready to practise. On several mornings I felt my sister with me on the mat which made the experience even more meaningful.

Supportive Feedback from the Group

The encouragement from my friends played a major role in keeping me going. Here is a selection of the feedback that motivated me throughout the journey.

"Congratulations everyone. Thank you Jackie for your consistency. I am so happy I have been able to support you while giving my body what it needed." By D

"Another great session." By M

"Wonderful and challenging session. Thank you Jackie." By M

"Thanks Jackie. Set me up for a long shift at work." By S

"It was a lovely session and flowed beautifully. I liked the location." By M

"Thank you Jackie. Lovely location." By D

"It is day three and I feel good. Very aware of the areas I want to focus on in my body." By D

"Great session as always. Thank you." By T

"Great session today. I loved the tai chi and the extra stretches." By D

Reading these messages helped me push through the early, dark and cold mornings. I also spent two weeks of the challenge in Spain where I was teaching yoga on a digital nomad and arts retreat.

How the Challenge Felt

Completing this challenge brought up many mixed emotions. I felt sad yet hopeful, and both proud and humbled. I felt determined to finish not only for myself but also for the wonderful women who joined me. Some were completely new to yoga while others were not regular practitioners. Their determination and commitment were inspiring to witness.

The certificate we received is a shared achievement for all of us. I am grateful to everyone who joined, supported or encouraged me along the way. I look forward to continuing this journey and taking part in more challenges in the future.
