Why Your Wellbeing Should Be Part of Your Life Plan, Not an Afterthought

You don't have to wait until you're exhausted to start looking after yourself.

How often do you say:

"I'll focus on myself when things calm down."

"I'll start exercising again next month."

"I just need to get through this busy period."

"Everyone else needs me right now."

For many of us, looking after ourselves becomes something we promise we will do later, or we don't have time for this right now.

The problem is that later can keep moving. Work will always be busy

Family commitments will always be there and forever changing. Responsibilities grow. Life happens. And somewhere along the way, our own wellbeing can quietly move to the bottom of the list.

When did looking after yourself become optional?

I have spent many years working in healthcare and senior operational leadership, alongside my work as a yoga teacher, life coach and wellness practitioner.

One thing I've seen repeatedly is that people can be incredibly capable, successful and resilient while simultaneously feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or disconnected from themselves.

We become very good at functioning.

But functioning isn't always the same as feeling well.

You can be getting everything done and still know that something needs to change.

Maybe you're tired all the time.

Maybe you're struggling to switch off.

Maybe you haven't exercised for months.

Maybe you're putting everyone else's needs before your own.

Maybe you simply don't feel like yourself anymore.

And sometimes you don't need another diet, another fitness challenge or another rigid routine.

You need support.

Wellness isn't just about exercise

When we think about wellbeing, we often think about eating well and exercising.

Those things matter, but wellbeing is much bigger than that.

It's also about:

  • How you manage stress

  • How you sleep and recover

  • How you move your body

  • How you speak to yourself

  • The boundaries you have in your life

  • Your relationships and sense of connection

  • How you manage your time

  • Whether you make space for yourself

  • Your mindset

  • The habits you repeat every day

These areas are connected. When one area is out of balance, it can affect the others.

That's why I believe wellness coaching needs to look at the whole person holistically, rather than focusing on one isolated area.

Your wellbeing matters

You don't have to wait for January.

You don't have to wait until you're exhausted.

You don't have to wait until life becomes less busy.

And you don't have to figure it all out by yourself.

Sometimes the most important step is simply deciding that your wellbeing matters enough to invest in.

If you're ready to make some positive changes and would like personalised support, I would love to hear from you.
