Walking for a Purpose

Updated: Jul 29

Walking is like the simplest of actions, however you can get so much more out of it when walking with intention.

During Covid I started walking with a lovely group of ladies, Group Name Walking Buddies!! These lovely ladies has made walking more than movement, it has become a meaning as well as a great support network for all of us.

🌿 A Return to Simplicity

Walking doesn’t require any fancy equipment, expensive memberships, or perfect weather. It’s the most accessible form of movement—and one of the most powerful. We have done many walks from streets to walking in the woods, from pouring down rain to hot sunshine. We have even travelled to Amsterdam to add in International flare to our walking.

💭 Walking for Mental Clarity

There’s a reason so many of our best ideas arrive mid-walk. Walking clears mental fog, reduces anxiety, and gives the brain room to breathe. A purposeful walk can be a reset button—a chance to process emotions, solve problems, or simply be with yourself.

🤝 Walking for a Cause

Purposeful walking can extend beyond self-care. Charity walks, community marches, or walking to raise awareness transforms every step into an act of service. You're not just walking—you’re showing up, standing with, speaking out. I have just completed a charity walk with Walking Buddies for Cancer Research in the Cotswolds. What a great weekend it was!!!

Other ways

  • Walking to raise funds for mental health initiatives

  • Participating in a climate or peace march

  • Joining a remembrance walk for someone you've lost

🌍 Walking to Connect

When we walk side-by-side with others, something subtle but profound happens: we open up. Conversation flows more easily. Connection deepens. Walking with a friend, loved one, or even a stranger on a shared journey creates a space for honest dialogue that sitting across a table rarely allows. I can definitely testify that we have the most amazing conversations.

🔑 Walk with Intention

Whether you're walking for your health, your mental wellbeing, a greater cause, or quiet contemplation, remember: it doesn’t have to be far or fast to be meaningful. It just has to be intentional.

So lace up your shoes. Choose your path. Walk with a purpose—and let every step carry you toward something that matters.

Want to go deeper? Try these prompts on your next walk:

  • What do I want to let go of?

  • What am I walking toward—emotionally, spiritually, or literally?

  • Who might benefit from me taking this walk today?
